I ran into an interesting blog post this morning written by a 40-year-old Alabama mom named Tracy, who talks about the trials and tribulations of septic system failure from a customer’s perspective. Read her Lines From the Vine blog entry right here:

Tracy tells readers how her family discovered septic system ponding in the backyard, and how their local septic service provider broke the bad news that their makeshift septic system had no drainfield lines. The family ordered a new septic system, then chronicled the installation by taking photos from the window. You can tell this was a learning opportunity for the family (with husband Paul and 12, yes 12 children), with the kids joining mom in front of the window to watch the excavators at work.

“I’m thankful for two whole days of educational entertainment for the entire family (including the cat!),’’ Tracy wrote.

The blog post made me wonder, how many of your customers take such an active interest in the septic system installation process? Do they stare out the window and take photos? Are they curious enough to come out and ask questions as you work? Are these interactions a good opportunity to share information about how homeowners can use their new systems effectively and ensure they last a long time?

And maybe while you’re over at Tracy’s blog, you can leave her a note of appreciation for sharing kind words about her local septic system installer.
