One Purchase Can Diversify Your Services

A trailer jetter performs many valuable tasks and boosts revenue for a Missouri installer

A 798 Trailer Jet from Spartan Tool has been a great diversification purchase for All Clear Pumping & Sewer in Jefferson City, Missouri, a company that most often is busy installing onsite systems. Picked up several years ago, the jetter that produces 4,000 psi at 18 gpm has been a handy tool for many jobs and a good revenue generator.

Deciding on the purchase was easy. Owners Shawn and Tracy Chilton started All Clear in 2008, but the company grew rapidly. “The first big year we had, we spent enough on jetter rentals to buy two machines,” says Jason Jones, the company’s project manager.

The unit is used for big and small jobs – from residential system line clearing to working for large local employers such as the Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo and Unilever, the huge consumer products company whose better known brands include Dove soap, Lipton tea, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and Vaseline.

“There are only a handful of companies around here that have a jetter as powerful as our Spartan. Although we have a good commercial base on the sewer side, without that jetter we would not be able to compete in the industrial segment of the market,” Jones says.

While not a targeted use when All Clear purchased the jetter, it has been employed to open drainfield leach lines by removing accumulated biomat.

“This method doesn’t work all the time, but we do have a fair amount of success with it,” he says.

Though not a permanent solution for aging onsite systems, jetting the lines can help homeowners buy some time and save money toward a more comprehensive repair or replacement of their onsite systems, Jones says.
