Gainey’s Wastewater Treatment Plants – Now Nationwide

Gainey’s Concrete offers advanced packaged extended-aeration wastewater treatment plants designed to deliver effective, scalable solutions for communities and large-scale developments. Serving projects from as few as five homes to systems up to 1 million gpd, Gainey’s plants are manufactured in Louisiana and shipped across the southeastern U.S., meeting rigorous standards including TDEC, LDH, LDEQ, and Ten States Standards. Built with 5,000 psi precast concrete, Gainey’s systems are engineered for long-term performance with a service life of 50 to 100 years. By enhancing traditional extended aeration processes, Gainey’s systems can achieve advanced treatment levels as low as 5 BOD₅ / 5 TSS / 2 NH₃-N with tertiary filtration, while maintaining a small footprint and low energy demand. Designed for real-world conditions, the plants use off-the-shelf components for easier maintenance, offer a low life cycle cost, and can be installed in phases to support future growth.

Pump It Up: Pressure Sewer

Pressure sewer systems are sanitary sewer systems that utilize a network of grinder pumps to transport wastewater through small-diameter pipes directly to a collection and treatment system.A grinder pump is a submersible pump designed to reduce wastewater particulate to a slurry using a grinding mechanism.Pressure sewer systems can reduce installation costs, increase system flexibility and reduce the overall environmental impact of the system, all of which benefits contractors and end-users. They can be used as a complete turnkey solution or can be easily integrated into an existing collection system with other technologies. Watch the video to learn more.

Educating Homeowners on the Importance of Regular Septic System Maintenance

James Butler, a licensed septic inspector and installer with WNC Independent Labs in Weaverville, North Carolina, posted an example of a homeowner who hadn’t had their septic tank pumped in over 25 years. The sludge in the tank was so thick, additional water was added to help get it liquefied enough to be able to pump into the company truck’s tank. A hose ran city water to the tank, and an additional 2,000 gallons of water were added by WNC trucks over three trips and six hours. To help draw the sludge out of the system, two air compressors were used to inject air into the line, adding additional force to the truck’s own pump, which usually pumps at 250 gallons per minute. The video goes on to explain that the homeowner had been told his septic system didn’t need any maintenance, which, as this video shows, was a very expensive lesson to learn.

Anua Presentation: Restaurants and Convenience Store Commercial Waste

Restaurants and convenience stores produce wastewater that’s high strength. Designing for commercial facilities is far more challenging than designing for residential wastewater. Most state regulations do little to address BOD and FOG issues. Topics covered include identification of high-strength waste, design considerations, treatment solutions and key practices within an establishment. The information provided will look at issues of concern, real-world examples and better management practices. This presentation will help you increase the likelihood of successful design and operation.

Understanding High-Strength Wastewater

Some facilities discharge wastewater at concentrations far above (i.e., stronger than) typical residential wastewater. If the systems receiving this wastewater are sized using assumptions valid for residential-strength wastewater, substantial performance problems and premature system failures are likely soon to follow. This one-hour seminar is tailored to provide insights for solving this important issue from multiple perspectives. Kevin Sherman has bachelor’s degrees in biology and civil engineering, master’s degrees in biology and public health and a doctorate degree in oceanography. He has been working in the onsite wastewater field for 33 years. Sherman has published more than 25 papers on various aspects of onsite wastewater systems and is a past president of the Florida Environmental Health Association and the National Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association. During his career, Sherman has worked for multiple onsite product manufacturers and as a regulator, researcher, onsite association leader and designer. He is currently director of engineering and regulatory affairs for SeptiTech. Sherman holds professional engineering licenses in 17 states and is a Diplomate of Water Resource Engineering through the American Society of Civil Engineers.
