There are definite upsides to working with family members. They know your personality, they’re familiar with your communication style and work ethic, and you get to spend extra time together that you wouldn’t otherwise have.
But it’s not always, shall we say, harmonious. Dawn Rohrs, who owns Cyclone Septics with her husband Michael and also works with the couple’s two sons, knows this firsthand.
“All four of us are hotheaded and a little bit rough around the edges, especially my husband, who was in the oilfield as well. And so, there are times when I tell my kids to do something and they're like, ‘No, I'm not doing it.’ My husband has told my kids, ‘If you weren't family, I'd have fired you.’
Rohrs talks about all this and more in a recent interview on the Pumper/PRO/Installer Cast, including a funny story about her sons on a job site, her journey from the oil industry to running an onsite company, buying molds to make septic tanks, the demands of social media, and what needs to change in Oklahoma to improve regulations.
