As effluent standards for advanced onsite treatment systems become increasingly stringent, reliable secondary and tertiary disinfection is an emerging regulatory necessity. Jet Inc. addresses this directly with the Illumi-Jet Model 952, a dedicated UV disinfection unit engineered specifically to treat residential and commercial aerobic treatment plant effluent.
The core of the Illumi-Jet is a specialized germicidal lamp that emits 95% of its ultraviolet energy at exactly 254 nanometers. This specific wavelength operates at the peak of germicidal effectiveness, fundamentally disrupting the DNA of viruses, bacteria, protozoa and mold in the wastewater stream.
“It’s a good fit for the industry because the ‘easy’ lots are fewer and further in between,” says Kyle Bianco, market development manager for Jet Inc. “Most new lots are not always easily developable and may require additional treatment to be permitted to develop. That paired with the necessity to ensure that wastewater is not going to negatively impact public and/or environmental health make it a great fit.”
The Model 952 prevents “short-circuiting” or flow bypass through a carefully engineered physical housing. The disinfection chamber connects seamlessly to any standard 4-inch discharge pipe and is designed for permanent, below-grade installation. When the lamp subassembly is fully inserted, an integrated keyway securely locks it into the exact center of the chamber, splitting the flow and ensuring optimal fluid exposure time. The lamp is housed inside a clear, fused quartz tube. This protects the fragile bulb from the effluent while allowing maximum UV transmission and regulating the lamp’s internal operating temperature.
“Time and money are easily saved by being able to replace individual components such as the ballast or UV insert as compared to having to replace the entire unit,” says Bianco. “It can be utilized with multiple product lines, configurations and control panels while drawing less than 0.5 amps keeping electrical usage minimal.”
Built for continuous operation whether water is flowing or not, the Illumi-Jet is rated for a maximum flow of 10 gpm. It is designed to handle effluent with suspended solids below 30 mg/L and a five-day BOD below 30 mg/L. The entirely watertight subassembly extends approximately 1 foot above grade, protecting its standard 120-volt electrical connections against potential fluid backups from downstream blockages.
For professionals in the septic industry, the Illumi-Jet Model 952 represents a low-maintenance, high-efficiency tool. By swapping chemical tablets for automated UV energy, it simplifies regulatory compliance and protects local watersheds from both pathogens and chemical runoff.
