As part of a wide-ranging revision of its building code, the province of Ontario is proposing a stricter rule for the pumping of septic tanks.The present rule requires pumping when sludge and scum occupy one-third of working capacity. The proposed change would require pumping at the one-third level or every five years, whichever comes first.
