Minnesota county posts 'dirty movies'

Faribault County plans to place educational videos about septic systems on YouTube

Four educational videos about septic systems, made by the Faribault County (Minn.) Soil and Water Conservation District are soon to be posted on YouTube (they were not there yet as of this writing). .

“I just thought it would be an easy way to share the videos,” Brandee Douglas of district staff told the Faribault County Register. “This way we just direct people to our web site, where there will be a link to the videos on YouTube.”

The videos are funded by a grant from the Clean Water Fund of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. They are part of a "Get Pumped" campaign whose main purpose is to let people know about the importance of pumping their septic tanks every three years. Other grant-funded projects include brochures, maintenance stickers, calendar stickers, homeowner classes, and advertising.

The district partnered with the University of Minnesota Extension Service onsite program to create the four videos. They cover wastewater treatment options, the anatomy of a drainfield, tips for homeowners keeping septic systems shipshape, and mandatory maintenance requirements.
