The National Environmental Health Association now publishes an online list of holders of its Certified Installer of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems national credential.

The list, at http://www.neha.org/pdf/cred/Onsite/ciowts_credential_list.pdf, is dominated by Iowa installers: Some 208 professionals from that state are certified. That’s largely because the Iowa Onsite Wastewater Association has an agreement with NEHA to use its credentialing exam as a basis for offering IOWWA installer certification.

Other states with relatively high numbers of NEHA-credentialed installers are Colorado, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia. Wisconsin, my home state and the base of operations for Onsite Installer magazine, had just one credentialed installer as of the most recent list update on Nov. 5.

There are two levels of the NEHA credential: basic and advanced. Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 70 percent on the credentialing exam. For more information, visit www.neha.org.
