Rules Regs

Property owners selling their Lake Placid homes in New York now are required to have their septic systems inspected before closing the sale, the Lake Placid News reported. The North Elba Town Council in August added the inspection requirement to its septic law.

In addition to the new property-transfer septic inspections, routine inspections are also required: every three years for year-round properties and every five years for seasonal properties. Inspections must be conducted by licensed professionals.

During the winter months or other times when septic inspections can’t be conducted at the time of a sale, buyers and sellers must sign a septic agreement. The agreement determines who will pay for any necessary upgrades and when the upgrades will be completed.

Cobb County uses ARPA grant to help homeowners with routine septic maintenance

Cobb County, Georgia, is using an American Rescue Plan Act grant to give homeowners a financial incentive to complete routine septic tank maintenance for their primary residences.

Cobb and Douglas Public Health launched a Septic Tank Pumping Incentive Program in July, offering up to $250 for pumpouts to eligible homeowners, according to a Cobb County government news release. Residents in Cobb County, Georgia, may apply for the one-time incentive after having their septic pumped by a state-approved company.

Homeowners wishing to enroll in the incentive program can visit the Cobb and Douglas Public Health website to apply. The incentive will be issued as a credit on a resident’s water bill.
