Uneven distribution is a common issue in gravity-fed wastewater treatment systems. When sections of the infiltration area receive more effluent than others, they wear out faster, leading to premature clogging and reduced performance. Low-flow velocity further contributes to localized saturation and uneven loading.

Perforated pipes have long been standard in onsite wastewater treatment, but their design often causes uneven distribution. Although perforations run along the entire pipe, most effluent exits through the first drainage holes, rarely reaching downstream sections of the infiltration area. Traditional distribution boxes, while recommended, also tend to deliver uneven doses to each treatment line, increasing localized saturation.

There are two main approaches to improving distribution in gravity-fed systems. The first is to replace perforated pipes with slotted channels.

Slotted channels promote more uniform distribution by using one narrow slot per foot, arranged in an alternating left-right pattern and positioned perpendicular to the flow. This configuration balances discharge along the entire channel, improving system performance and lifespan. This design, built into Premier Tech’s Rewatec distribution chambers, enhances distribution in any gravity-based treatment system, including combined treatment and dispersal systems.

The second approach is to improve dosing. Larger, more uniform doses have the velocity needed to disperse along the full length of the infiltration area. The Rewatec dosing distribution box performs both dosing and distribution without requiring electricity, offering a simple and effective upgrade for gravity-fed systems.

While each solution alone can improve any treatment system’s overall performance, combining the Rewatec distribution chambers with the Rewatec dosing distribution box is the best way to create better outcomes for soil absorption areas.
