When faced with compact lots, high bedrock or other challenging site conditions, R&R Septic Solutions in Waverly, Iowa, often turns to E-Z Treat units.

“We see a lot of little subdivisions where you have a small lot and there is no room for a conventional system when you need to stay within your setbacks,” says Katie Resor, who owns the company with husband Troy. “There also are places where we hit a limiting layer pretty easily. In one area in particular, along a lake and a river, we run into bedrock, and that rules out the conventional systems.”

E-Z Treat, based in CatlettVirginia, manufactures advanced treatment systems that hold NSF certifications 40, 245 and 350. The company also provides engineering support to address the needs of residential and commercial applications. The units are designed to provide environmentally sustainable, cost-effective, reliable and low-maintenance treatment for homes and businesses.

R&R Septic Solutions uses mainly the E-Z Treat Model 600 recirculating synthetic filter, a unit sized for residential installations with 600 gpd treatment capacity. Septic tank effluent flows to the unit where it receives passive biochemical treatment through an active biofilm matrix.

The styrene filter media is uniform and provides ample surface area for biological growth. The media contains multiple voids to optimize air and liquid flow. A recirculation chamber contains a bypass valve and recirculation pump. The bypass connects to a 4-inch return line from the E-Z Treat pod.

The bypass valve allows the effluent to be continually recirculated through the media. Treated effluent exits the bypass valve and flows to a conventional gravity drainfield or to other dispersal options that include low-pressure pipe, surface or subsurface drip irrigation, and spray irrigation.

The company also supplies UV disinfection units that produce effluent suitable for reuse under state and local regulations. The UV-102 model unit includes two UV lamps. One lamp operates, and when it burns out the unit automatically switches to the back-up lamp, at the same time sending an alarm so that the contractor can replace the original lamp without interrupting disinfection.
