Septic tank risers are important because — instead of digging — they make it easier to access the septic tank for maintenance and pumping, saving time and money. However, if not properly secured, they also make septic systems accessible to children, which is a real safety concern. That’s why a secure and durable riser lid is a must, but it is only as secure as the last person who secured the lid.
The TUF-TITE 24-inch heavy-duty flat riser lid is designed to be installed with eight vertical screws and four horizontal screws for added safety. A water- and gas-tight septic tank lid is required to meet most state and local septic codes. This prevents noxious odors and dangerous gasses from escaping the septic tank.
According to Ted Meyers, president of TUF-TITE, the company’s lids have become the industry standard for septic tank lids. They are used with concrete and plastic septic tanks and aerobic home treatment plants.
The 24-inch septic tank lids are easy to install, and the foamed-in permanent polyurethane lid gasket means there is no need for temporary O-rings or caulk to assure a water- and gas-tight seal. They are secured by eight vertical and four horizontal safety screws for added safety; screws are included. The lids also include Concrete Keepers, which allows the lid to be filled with up to 65 pounds of concrete for additional safety. When filled with concrete, the lid meets most septic tank regulations including ASTM C1227. TUF-TITE 24-inch flat lids fit most commercially available plastic risers and plastic pipes used for septic tank risers.
In 2003, TUF-TITE created the first national riser and lid testing standard called IAPMO PS-1 - 2003a. The company was the only one to have their products tested to that standard by NSF.
According to Meyers, the 24-inch heavy-duty flat riser lid is just one of many septic innovations introduced by TUF-TITE over the last 40 years, starting with the first commercially available plastic riser introduced in 1994.
“The success of the TUF-TITE riser and lid system speaks for itself,” he says. “It is the No. 1 seller in the United States and Canada.”
