Locations where flammable gases or vapors may be present, such as around lift stations or pump chambers, require intrinsically safe control panels to prevent the possible ignition of explosive gasses. Zoeller now offers one simple accessory — the Pivot Pak IS — that can convert any control panel into an intrinsically safe model.
“In hazardous environments, one spark is all it takes to cause a world of damage,” says Zack Cooper, Zoeller national sales manager. “That’s why intrinsically safe panels aren’t just equipment, they’re lifelines keeping lives, assets and the future of your operations safe.”
To comply with Class 1/Division 1 Intrinsically Safe requirements, float switches must operate at a voltage below the threshold for ignition in a hazardous environment. Standard pivot panels deliver 120 volts to the float switch inputs. The Pivot Pak IS serves as an independent accessory designed to reduce the float switch voltage to a level below the threshold for ignition, creating an intrinsically safe installation. With universal compatibility and prewired conduit cords, installation is fast, easy and cost-effective.
According to Cooper, the combination of a Pivot Pro control panel and the Pivot Pak IS accessory offers a nearly 5% cost saving compared to purchasing equivalent intrinsically safe panels. In addition, the Pivot Pak IS not only upgrades Pivot Series control panels but also has the capability to convert other manufacturers’ standard panels into intrinsically safe systems, broadening its applicability. The upgrade can be performed post-installation, allowing existing systems to be enhanced without significant modifications or replacements. It includes a prewired conduit cord with stripped wire ends for fast and easy connection to a control panel. It steps down 120-volt power from the panel to the float switches, allowing for connection of up to four floats. However, it must be installed in a general-purpose area.
“You can stock any standard Pivot Series control panel and convert it to a hazardous-duty panel with just a simple add-on,” says Cooper.
With the Pivot Pak IS, Zoeller empowers professionals in water and wastewater management to meet stringent safety standards without compromising on cost, flexibility or convenience. Whether you’re upgrading existing systems or planning new installations, this accessory simplifies compliance in hazardous environments, meaning there is no need to overstock or overcomplicate.
