The sweet smell of spring. For most people that means the scent of rain, blooming flowers, fresh cut grass and blossoming trees. For you, it smells like breaking dirt and making money.
It’s go-time for anyone in the excavation industry across the country. As the editor of a few trade publications, I know this is a crazy time for you. Like you, I’m constantly thinking ahead for my job. Lining up stories and issues months in advance to meet proofing, layout and printing deadlines. I understand the timing isn’t always great to add another task to a schedule that already has too many things on it. But as the phone calls come in and projects line up, I have one simple but big favor to ask: Keep Onsite Installer in mind.
Get in touch
If you’re a regular reader of this magazine, you know the System Profile column that appears in every issue where we highlight a specific unique, challenging or otherwise interesting install. We dive into the specifics, focusing on the both system itself and the installers and designers who were the brains and hands behind the project.
These might be septic systems that must be squeezed into a tiny lot on the shore of a lake, custom-fit to accommodate crazy slopes or other geographical roadblocks, or maybe a large commercial system that led you down a path of jumping through hoops to get the permitting sorted out. Whatever the cause of your installation headache, we want to hear about it.
I urge you to email me or give me a call when a project comes down the line that makes you scratch your head, but that you take on anyway.
Nothin’ to it
Here’s how it works. As soon as the project is a go, I assign one of our writers to the story. During a short interview with you, they will ask specifics of the job and system. What made it challenging? What was the exact system design? What sort of drainfield was used and why? What is it serving? What equipment did you use for the install? The more you want to share, the better.
Besides the interview, the only thing we ask of you is to provide a handful of high-resolution working photos taken throughout the project, which in today’s technological world is made easy with the photo quality of cellphone cameras.
Why?
Onsite Installer was founded on the principle of helping the industry as a whole using the voice of actual installers. The more we work together, share thoughts and ideas, challenge each other and communicate, the easier it is for this industry to grow and advance.
The approaches you take and the technology you use to tackle these tough jobs might be the solution someone across the country was searching for on a similar project. The hoops you had to jump through for permitting might be seen by an inspector or an official in charge of regulations in your area, inspiring them to reevaluate outdated ordinances and work to make it easier for the next installer.
Or perhaps your story of problem-solving, display of equipment mastery and show of onsite installation artistry is the final push a young reader needs to inspire them enough to join the industry.
All that aside, it’s nice to show off once in a while and a little free advertising never hurts. These articles are a perfect way to not only give yourself a pat on the back, but publicly recognize and acknowledge your employees and the incredible work they do everyday.
So, next time the phone rings and the customer on the other line starts talking about a job other installers turned down, but you know you can handle — when you hang up with them, give me a call at 715-350-8459.
Thanks for reading and happy spring!
