ClearPod has developed a low-cost, wastewater treatment solution that can be added to an existing septic tank to boost system performance. The ClearPod uses an aerobic, fixed-film treatment process that increases the performance of the system by reducing soluble BOD concentrations in the wastewater effluent. By reducing the levels of contaminants leaving the septic tank you can restore failing septic systems. Reducing contaminants reaching a dispersal field will reduce biomat formation and restore water percolation.

U.S. EPA reports that approximately 25 percent of North American households — an estimated 60 million people — rely on septic systems to treat wastewater. Approximately 10 percent of these — 6 million — suffer from failure in any given year. The cost of replacing a failing septic system can be a real issue for the individual homeowner as replacement tanks and leachfields cost upwards of $30,000.

The current study was carried by the Ontario Rural Wastewater Centre through the University of Guelph to characterize the performance of a standard septic system incorporating a ClearPod aeration treatment unit. This study was carried out over a 3.5-month period and demonstrated BOD5 effluent concentrations significantly lower than those typically reported for standard septic system technology, with the final month of operation demonstrating 78 percent removal and an average effluent of 62 mg/L. The average TSS concentration of 64 mg/L recorded throughout the study, translating to a 78 percent removal rate.

By significantly reducing the organic content of the septic system effluent (BOD5 and TSS) it is predicted the ClearPod unit can be used to enhance standard septic technology with potential applications in restoring under performing or failing systems.

ClearPod continues to test our solution with leading septic system test centers in the U.S. and Canada. The company is committed to developing low-cost, high performance wastewater treatment solutions.
