Onsite systems can be tremendous assets to a property, but they need to be safely secured, especially if young children are around. Making sure that septic tank access points are secure and that access equipment isn’t damaged or degraded is essential.
Orenco’s Tank Shield is a secondary safety barrier designed to prevent unintended entry and accidental falls into tanks and pump basins. It can be installed in a new or existing tank access riser or pump basin, and is compatible with Orenco’s 24- and 30-inch FRP pipe, as well as 24-inch Ultra Rib pipe.
“We’ve all heard about kids falling into septic tanks. We believe one story is too many, and if we can do something to prevent this tragedy, we’re going to,” says David Nelson, onsite systems product manager for Orenco Systems. “The industry as a whole needs to address this by encouraging local governments to establish minimum specification requirements for secondary barriers and making them a requirement on all septic systems.”
The Tank Shield is capable of supporting a load of up to 250 pounds, providing more security and safety for tanks and pump basins than access riser lids alone. It locks securely into mounting brackets that are attached to the access riser with stainless steel hardware, eliminating the need for additional bolts or screws. It can be installed over pumping equipment.
“Products like the Tank Shield bring awareness, which is always a good thing,” says Nelson. “Most customers get on board with products that raise the bar on safety, so the feedback we’ve received has been great.”
Tank Shield is molded of copolymer polypropylene for exceptional durability. Mounting brackets and hardware can also be ordered individually. For cold-weather applications, optional insulation is available. Nelson believes that products like Orenco’s Tank Shield designed to help ensure safety are “truly a no-brainer.”
“There are some people who don’t wear seat belts because they don’t think anything will happen to them,” he says. “The problem with this logic is that when these people realize that seat belts are necessary, it may be too late. We don’t want this to be the case when it comes to septic safety. We want every home or business with a septic system to be as safe as possible. The Orenco Tank Shield can help make that happen.” 800-348-9843; www.orenco.com
